Genre: Action, Adventure

Lots of Anime games were being released overtime just recently Dragon Ball FigtherZ is one of the favorites this year and if you’re a Fan of 7 Deadly Sins, Bandai Namco has released a game for that anime on PS4. 7 Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia is a combination of Fighting and Musuo game with some gathering added to its gameplay. Let’s see if it can match the explosion made by Dragon Ball FigtherZ this year.

7 Deadly Sins is Shonen if you're curious with the genre, meaning that the target audience would be 12 to 18-year-old teenage boys. To give you a short summary of the story, Princess Elizabeth of Brittania went on a quest to find the 7 deadly, a group of highly skilled knights who were said to have been defeated by the Holy Knights, to enlist their help to regain the Kingdom after a coup staged by the Holy Knights which imprisoned his father and sister. She then met Meliodas which is fortunately the captain of the band and the two set on a journey to find Meliodas' comrades and save the kingdom.

Graphics are nice, and It looks really like the anime. Maybe I’ll talk more about the controls. Some issues with the controls as there’s a bit of lag on performing each move. Not sure if there’s an update to fix this but it’s kinda frustrating. Moves does not connect much and there’s no sense of satisfaction after each attack like the one you find on Musuo games. Something is off really and it’s frustrating that your character just stops not able to connect to anything. Attacking enemies also points to different directions and the in game camera loses focus on the enemy I want to target.

The game is a mix of Musuo and Fighting game which is similar with Bandai Namco games. They are already a master of this craft, injecting the formula to almost every Anime game. So, if you have played a lot of Bandai Namco games chances are, you’d get familiar with these quirks and might find the game repetitive. And yes, repetitive indeed you'd be performing almost the same mission over and over and unfortunately with very minimal challenge. I guess it's really targeted for young audiences. The Musuo part of the game lets you battle mindless goons and wouldn’t really keep your hand muscles busy. You can smash all the buttons that you want and win every mission. It's easy with some tricky challenges that would need you to defeat certain enemies within the time limit which after some tries would be really easy the next time you try it. The fighting or Duel mode, as called in this game, lets you fight the main casts of the game rather than mindless goons but still easy and won't give much challenge. There're also missions in the game which lets you control Elizabeth and Hawk to gather stuff which I'd really question Bandai Namco why even add this in the game.

You travel around a huge lifeless map which you navigate via the really slow Hawk Mama. You choose which town to visit next in search for the other members of 7 Deadly Sins and do missions which generates rumor points which will eventually open new information about the other members and better mission challenges and drops. Doing missions gives you items which you can use to purchase equipment for each member including Hawk, the cute pink pig.

It's one of those games that you'd not want to put your money to even 2nd hand purchase. Not sure if fans of the series would love this as there's only lifeless cutscenes available here. Not even a spark to give those none fan like me to check the anime itself. A videogame which mechanics were recycled and only exists because a popular Anime needs to have a videogame.

THE GOOD
  • A videogame for fans of the Anime

THE BAD
  • Recycled mechanics
  • Frustratingly simple and easy
  • The gathering portion of the game
  • Huge Lifeless map
  • Control and Camera issues

Overall Score: 5/10
