Whenever I buy a new android phone I always install Riptide GP on it to test the graphical power. It's such a beautiful game for our mobile devices and is absolutely addicting to play. If you're not familiar with this game, you drive a futuristic Jetski and is racing game where you can do racing and perform tricks. This available in almost every platform and now that it is being ported to Nintendo Switch, does it have the same charm as its predecessors?

The answer is an absolute YES. It has the same beauty as its brothers, runs at most 60 FPS and plays very well. This is the first time I am playing this game with a controller since I played this with touch using my mobile device. Water physics is what this game is a master of. The game amazingly of beauty on the NS. Environments were also amazing though not very generous with the number of stages you can race on.

As mentioned you drive a futuristic Jetski on this game. There are various modes this time and a story mode. As I recalled there's none on previous Riptide GP's though the story is noooot that engaging, its adds optional character challenges that nets you cash and you can practice all the racing features of the game such as Classic Racing, Slalom, Elimination and Freestyle where you perform tricks and net a certain score to win. Speaking of tricks, you can unlock tricks that you can use for Race and Freestyle modes, when leveling up, you gain skills points to use for those. The more difficult the trick the higher boost you gain during race modes. You also upgrade you ride on this game and some basic color customization for free. You can choose which part you of the ride you want to upgrade eg. Acceleration, handling, etc. and price rises the more it levels up.

There are four play options you can do in Riptide. Career (The Story mode), Quick Race, Online multiplayer and Split Screen Local Multiplayer. Everything is self-explanatory, and I tried the Online multiplayer and surprisingly its smooth and I did not experience any lags. Split screen is smooth as well though you'd not be able to perform tricks and it just continuously runs since ZR is not present when you split up JCs.

So, it's beautiful and its plays amazing, the question is, should you buy it? The answer is it depends. Why? It only costs $1.99 for the mobile version and $9.99 for the Nintendo Switch version. You might be paying extra for the split screen multiplayer but if you have the money to spend for a solid racing game. Why not?

Pros:
  • Amazing visuals and performance
  • Superb Controls
  • Fun multiplayer
Cons:
  • Few Stages
  • A bit pricey compared to mobile counterparts

Overall: 4/5
