Written by Michael Petalio

Title: NBA 2K18
Genre: Basketball simulation, Sports
Developer: Visual Concepts
Publisher: 2K Sports
Also available on: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Android

NBA 2K18 this year’s version of the popular NBA 2K series that basketball fans wait every year to kick off the NBA season. 2K Sports are outdoing themselves every year to provide a fresh and improved installment each year that even common gamers can enjoy.

On this review well be focusing on the mobile version, not the better mobile version in Nintendo Switch, on what improvements does it have compared to previous iterations.

Visuals

Visuals is much more the same as last years, but with added background details. Setting everything to high caused my gameplay to experience lag and drop in frame rate (iPhone 6 Plus). Better smartphones might provide a better gameplay when set to high. Setting everything to low makes the game playable but not that great visually.

Top rookies have better cyber face than seldom used player since time immemorial. Most of the cyber faces used are from older version, some players have their looks since their 1st year in the league. Some player portraits are outdated.

Controls

2k18 introduced another set of controls, after testing it and setting the game mode to pro, I still got owned by the opposing team making me used my all-time favorite control settings from 2K16. Making this year’s controller version as bad as last year.

Gameplay

Here is where most of the similarities from previous version will be noticed, as a sports game you can only do so much with an established sport. Game changes and modes can only revolve with the main game, to ball, to shoot hoops, to dominate, and to win championships! Quick game, Blacktop, and The Association are the game modes together with the changing and improving My Career mode, with a new approach to be the best player among the big boy’s league.

Audio and in game commentator and voice over at My Career Mode is a plus. But if you listen carefully during games. Most players are called by the name of their teammates or worse by players not even part on the team or never been part of the organization. Fouls being called for other players not even playing, the worst call was when a player scored and was called by a different player from another team and was assisted by another player not on the team!

VCs are again used as in game currency. Uniforms and other accessories are unlocked by achieving certain goals in My Career Mode.

OVERVIEW:

Quality: 3/5
Gameplay: 4/5
Soundtrack: 3/5
Replay: 5/5
Verdict: 3.75/5

NBA 2K18 like its predecessor is a portable basketball game available for anyone. Anyone who wanted a dose of hoop anytime can soak in for a quick game. Hiccups in commentating is a minus but for a mobile game it is still a great game. In addition for better gameplay better smartphone is recommended.

  1. Good game! And yet in this, there is a certain unnatural. My father always took me with him to the basketball game and I was filled with this sporting atmosphere. My elder brother also followed in the footsteps of his father and now owns the book merchant business. The plans of a large site from these developers - https://www.betinvest.com/sportsbook/ He likes a similar intersection of virtuality and a real sport. Do you place bets yourself?
