Written by Michael Petalio

Game Title: Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkuni
Genre: Action
Developer: Meteorise
Publisher: JP – Marvelous, NA/EU – Pqube

Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkuni is an action packed game from the creators of Senran Kagura, as expected is it is full of the fan service jiggle. It is a lively, full throttle anime game. It is about the islands responsible for the treatment of girls infected with A Virus which divided them into two classes: the Extars, who transforms into weapons, and the Liberators who have the power to wield the extars’ weapon forms. An anime series was aired in 2015 for the other island named Mermaid and Siren for the mobile game. As for the game it is in the island of Bhikkuni, with a special strain of the Virus which allows the girls to either be the Extar or the Liberator.

The game has multiple modes than can be played right away, but is limited to the two main characters if you haven’t played the story mode yet. It includes a survival mode, challenge mode, and an online mode. Some of the options in the menu are part of the Story mode including the Dining Room, to talk to the characters, the dressing room, store, and other options. Mini games unlocks stuffs like costumes, pictures, videos, among others.

Included in these mini games is the dressing room where you can interact with available characters to increase your relationship with them, it includes touching them to increase level and a mini game with the character in bikini and playing with hearts In the item shop some cooler bikinis can be unlocked and it’s up to the player to discover all the available goodies that can be obtained.

The story mode follows the sisters as they undergo treatment, which is fighting each other to check each one and not cause any harm to others. It follows an anime story, goofing around each other with unique characters. The narrative feels dragging at times that you might want to press the skip button to proceed to the exiting part, the action packed battles.

During battle your character has 4 transformations available called drive (Drive, Second Drive, Third Drive, and Final Drive), at each transformation a cutscene between the Liberator and the Extar takes place and depending on the level of the drive the fan service escalates to the next level, and the weapon form also changes increasing its power. If during battles between other characters took place, and you end the battle using your drive your opponent will be stripped totally of all her clothes.

Each playable character is partnered with another character, as the weapon. Combos can be made while attacking hordes of enemies, aerial, special and normal attacks can be used to deal maximum damage. Gameplay is easy to learn and battles never fluctuate even if there are huge number of enemies on screen. Special called Drive can unleash more powerful attaches when the special meter bar is full, each level stronger than the other.

OVERVIEW:

Visual: 8/10
Quality: 8/10
Story: 7/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Replay value: 8/10

Verdict: 8/10

Valkyrie Drive is goofy, action packed game, with a great battle system that will surely get you going if the fan servicing is not yet enough. Anime fans that are into the anime will surely get into it, especially if you have watched the anime part of the series.
