|Filipinos bag 1st and 2nd place at the NBA 2K16 tournament held at the recently concluded Taipei Game Show|
One of the biggest gameshows in Asia crowned a Filipino winner after an intense battle of skill. Aminolah “Rial” Polog Jr. championed over the rest to win the grand prize in the NBA 2K16 PlayStation®4 Asia Tournament finals during the recently concluded Taipei Game Show.
As competitive gaming takes Asia by storm, the Philippines is not a country to back down from a challenge. This year, Filipino fans got to show off their skills on the popular game NBA 2K16 with the grand prize of $2,500 on the line.
A round robin tournament was held among the top six winners which each playing one round against each other to determine the top three finalists. Third place went to Taiwanese player, Chien Chun Chieh with Filipinos Aminolah “Rial” Polong Jr. and Wilmer “Ming” Magno securing the top two spots.
In the finals, Polong Jr. chose the Oklahoma Thunder as his team for his final match against fellow Filipino Magno who picked the Cleveland Cavaliers. Polong Jr. managed to take the title with the final score of 51-40 against rival Magno.
There were a total of 640 participants in the tournament with six finalists making it to Taipei -- two from Hong Kong, two from Taiwan, and two from the Philippines. Prizes were rewarded accordingly to the winners:
1st Prize: USD$2,500
1st Runner up Prize: USD$1,200
2nd Runner up Prize: USD$800
The NBA 2K16 PS4 Asia Tournament was an effort between the game publisher 2K and Sony PlayStation. The preliminary round in the Philippines took place last November 2015 in Resorts World Manila.
